Compare these to a well-engineered laser, a 1600mW blue laser. The higher power output is normal given the slope efficiency curve, temperature, and battery charge; the diode is marketed this way too.
A tale of two lasers: the one on the left, mostly harmless unless you shine it in your eye. The one on the left: no eye pro, no eye.
This one is the exact same listing, only it's green. Class 3B so you can look at the beam on the wall, but way over 5mW. It can't set stuff on fire making it kind of worthless. The colour is nice though, maybe I'll keep it.
Finally got around to getting a laser power meter. This is an ebay "5mW" (0.005W) blue laser.
First light; trying to find a good housing for it, but the bench power supply will have to do for now

I didn't realize it until this morning, but it looks like my second monitor caught some reflections from the laser.
